ABILENE, TEXAS, November 7, 2013: Ron Johnson, Executive Vice President of Lauren Engineers & Constructors, has been invited to speak at Rockwell Automation’s Process Solutions User Group in Houston, Texas on November 11 and 12.  Johnson will discuss Lauren’s Godawari Green Energy Solar Plant in India, which used Rockwell’s process solutions to ensure a timely and effective launch of power to the grid.

The Godawari Solar Project includes over 161,000 mirrors, combining for a total of 120 loops, which can heat 1,400 metric tons of heat transfer fluid.  The project is situated on 400 acres in India’s Rajasthan state, and provides 122,000 MWh of power to the national grid annually as part of Phase I of India’s National Solar Mission.  A harsh desert climate, heavy dust, and heavy rain made environmental considerations crucial during the construction process.

Lauren was faced with the challenge of integrating both the solar field controls and the power block/steam turbine generator.  Rockwell was able to handle both sides of this challenge and could offer a viable, full-scope solution to meet Lauren’s project needs.  The team used innovative ideas to overcome both technical and logistical challenges, and achieved success when Godawari became the first utility-scale solar plant in India to deliver power to the grid.

Johnson has over 40 years’ experience in engineering and construction, specializing in heavy industrial products in power, process, petrochemical and oil and gas.
