ABILENE, TX, April 30, 2013: In the first quarter of 2013, Lauren Engineers & Constructors reached an uncommon safety milestone: five years with no lost time injuries.  This significant achievement confirms Lauren’s reputation as one of the safest companies to work for across the entire construction industry and is a direct reflection of Lauren’s unwavering commitment to health and safety excellence.

OSHA defines a lost time injury as an incident or injury that causes a worker to miss the subsequent calendar workday, and the Bureau of Labor statistics recently reported that the construction industry average is 2.1 cases involving days away from work per 100 full-time workers, per year.

Lauren’s direct hire craft base over the last five years includes over 3,600 craft professionals employed at sites throughout the United States.  Managing the complexities of a craft force this size is challenging and requires a vigilant safety effort at all offices and jobsites.  This safety approach at Lauren has created a safe work culture, embodied from the very top and lived out on our jobsites,  which  has allowed the company to consistently meet its primary safety goal: to help every worker leave work safely and injury-free, every single day.

Todd Meek, Lauren’s Corporate Safety Director, commented, “While we’re incredibly proud of our organization and the commitment it has taken from everyone to achieve this safety milestone, this does not come by surprise.  Our core value everywhere we work is creating an environment free of recognizable hazards, and our employees’ devotion to that is continuously proven.  The results of this safety commitment speak for themselves: We have worked more than 8.5 million man-hours injury-free over the past five years.”

Lauren’s goal of zero injuries is backed by a comprehensive safety program modeled after behavior-based safety standards in which all employees are called to take personal responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their coworkers.  Site and task-specific training, as well as daily collaborative safety meetings, help to solidify Lauren’s safety culture and provide the safest possible work environments at all offices and jobsites.
